Crucible Compaction Metals Conducts 5 S Event
A full 5 S housekeeping program has been initiated at Crucible Compaction Metals. The elements of a 5 S program are Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. It is a powerful system used by leading companies to help eliminate waste, dirt, clutter, inefficiency, and other barriers to excellence. A consultant, Catalyst Connection, has been contracted to train management and labor personnel, set-up the program, and supervise events. A plant-wide meeting was held to explain the importance of this program. On July 5, the first event was held in the Maintenance and Welding Departments. During the four day event, all production activity was suspended in those areas. Similar events will be held in all areas of the plant over the next several months until all employees are fully trained and the entire facility has implemented 5 S.
